Netafim Brings State-of-the Art Greenhouse Technology to Turkmenistan
A Turkmenistan company new to agriculture is now growing premium tomatoes for export with the greenhouse expertise provided by Netafim's local greenhouse projects team.
High-yield tomato farming in a cold climate environment with greenhouse technology
The client wanted a customized end-to-end solution to produce high tomato yield in sub-zero temperatures. Another challenge was the remoteness of the location - the gas-rich republic, bordering the Caspian Sea, is one of the most isolated countries in the world, and Netafim is among just a small handful of foreign companies operating in the country’s horticulture sector.
Making it happen with Netafim's end-to-end greenhouse expertise
In a unique project, Netafim designed and integrated a complete set of greenhouse technology systems which are now being used to grow tomatoes in the cold desert climate of Turkmenistan.
Integration of greenhouse irrigation, fertigation, heating, electricity and control systems
As part of the project, Netafim managed the complex integration of greenhouse irrigation, fertigation, heating, electricity and control systems for a series of 6 greenhouses, covering over 8 hectares. Netafim also installed a pioneering ultrafiltration system that collects drain water and uses medical-grade technology to disinfect and prepare the water for recycling.
The entire project was executed by Netafim’s local team from the Turkmenistan region. The team not only handled integration and also provided post-sales agro-technical support for the customer. Very few foreign greenhouse companies operate in Turkmenistan, and Netafim was chosen for its flexibility, professionalism, expertise and ability to integrate both the structure and its systems.
“We are happy to have chosen Netafim because of their fast reaction time, service provided by Netafim’s local specialists that are available to us 24/7 and their ability to integrate between the different systems and the structure of our greenhouses,” stated a spokesman for the company.
Not Just a Greenhouse, But Also a Business
The project was completed earlier this year (2019) and the first crop of tomatoes are already being exported. By successfully delivering the turnkey greenhouse project, Netafim provided the client with an end-to-end solution which is built to withstand extreme climate and produce high quality tomatoes on a year-round basis.
